"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
- Wayne Gretzky
Caroline Young is a senior at Calvary Baptist Academy in Hurricane, West Virginia, where she was born and raised. From a young age, Caroline was introduced to trail activities by her dad, who has always been passionate about trail running and took her along on adventures.
She's particularly proud of winning third place in the Maier Award in the first-year research category. Caroline lives with her parents, Matt and Ann Marie, and her brother Charlie, along with their dog, Sophie.
Outside of trails, Caroline enjoys playing volleyball, going on long car rides, and crocheting. She wants to join the MMTA Junior Board because she's passionate about the trails and aims to create opportunities for the community to enjoy them. As a member, she hopes to take an active role in planning and organizing events that bring people together, coming up with creative ideas to make them fun and welcoming for all ages while encouraging more folks to experience the trail system.
For Caroline, trails provide a place to relax while staying active, offering an escape from daily stress. Her favorite activity is hiking, and she loves Captain G’s for Fern Valley, Young Run because it's her dad’s trail, and the Virginia Creeper Trail for its relatively flat path with great scenery. If she could do only one thing on the trails forever, it would be hiking, as it's good exercise and peaceful.
Caroline draws inspiration from her favorite quote: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” - Wayne Gretzky.
