"Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard."
- Kevin Durant
Izzy Wooten is a 17-year-old senior at Winfield High School in Scott Depot, West Virginia, where she was born and has lived her entire life. Growing up in WV, Izzy dabbled in mountain biking during family camping trips, but a couple of years ago, her mom spotted a Facebook post about the NICA youth mountain biking league, prompting Izzy to step out of her comfort zone and join.
She's particularly proud of being the highest-placing West Virginia female in the NICA Eastern Regionals in both 2023 and 2024, earning 5th place on the podium in her age group each time. Izzy lives in Putnam County with her parents, younger sister, and younger brother, along with their dog and a 3-year-old county fair goldfish.
Beyond the trails, Izzy loves fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, pole vaulting, camping, and spending time with family and friends—anything that keeps her outside. She wants to join the MMTA Junior Board to help make a positive impact on people's lives by promoting outdoor activities. As a member, she hopes to contribute to the growth of the trail community and show others how fun and beneficial the trails can be.
For Izzy, trails provide a space to reflect, unwind, and sweat out tough days—serving as outdoor therapy. Her favorite trail activity is biking, and at Meeks, she especially enjoys Captain G's for its techy features with rocks, roots, and extra challenges. If she could do only one thing on the trails forever, it would be mountain biking, as it's what first brought her there.
Izzy draws inspiration from two favorite quotes: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope." (Jeremiah 29:11) and "Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” -Kevin Durant.
