Maia Detmer – Tough in Trauma, Relentless on the Trails

Maia Detmer is the definition of grit. A trauma nurse with nearly 20 years of experience, a Division 1 soccer alum, and a decorated ultrarunner with 98 races and 44 podiums, Maia knows what it means to dig deep—whether it’s in the ER or at mile 80.

Based in Las Vegas and proudly representing the Aravaipa Racing Team and UltrAspire, Maia has raced across the country and beyond, including Cocodona 250, Western States, Leadville 100, Mohican 100, Barkley Fall Classic, and Tarawera in New Zealand.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • How her trauma nurse experience fuels her mental strength on the trail

  • Growing up Filipino-American and family traditions

  • Her journey from Division 1 soccer to the ultramarathon world

  • Favorite races, lessons learned, and advice for new runners

Whether you're training for your first 50K or chasing your next podium, Maia’s story offers powerful insight and a whole lot of inspiration.
